At least 30 passengers killed in train crash in Pakistan
In a collision between two express trains in Pakistan, at least 30 passengers were killed on Monday morning, the authorities said.
The Millat Express train derailed first and was hit by the Sir Syed Express train in Ghotki shortly afterwards, according to Umar Tufail, a district police chief.
Rescuers, including troops, worked to retrieve survivors from the scene.
“At the moment the challenge for us is to quickly rescue the passengers who are still trapped in the rubble,” said Tufail.
There were around 1,100 people on both trains, officials said.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the chain reaction crash.
Some of the passengers on the Millat Express train were on their way to a wedding reception, local media reported. It was not known whether they were among the dead or wounded.
