Wednesday August 28th marked 50 years since the historic speech by Dr Martin Luther King in Washington. But Dr King was not the only speaker to address the huge crowd in Washington. John Lewis, then a young activist, also spoke. The BBC spoke to John Lewis about his memories of that day and his friendship with MLK.”Impact” Presenter Lucy Hockings also spoke to the Guardian columnist Gary Younge who wrote “The Speech” about the present-day legacy of MLK’s powerful words, and the huge challenges still facing African-Americans in modern America today.
