A Missouri man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his wife who was checking her phone “what to do if your husband is upset that you’re pregnant” before she went missing in 2019 .

Beau Rothwell, 31, received the life sentence without a chance of parole for the killing of his wife, Jennifer Rothwell, of four, who was pregnant at the time, KSDK reported on Friday.

“We made this murder case first and, as stated in today’s sentencing hearing, we have never made any further offers. That wasn’t an option,” St. Louis County Attorney Wesley Bell said, according to the TV network.

Bell also mentioned that Jennifer Rothwell will never be able to hold the child she was six weeks pregnant with at the time of her death.

“We felt that this person needed to be held accountable for their actions and that’s what we wanted to do.”

Beau Rothwell was found guilty of first-degree murder and lesser charges earlier this year.

Rothwell admitted to killing his wife during his trial but claimed it was not planned.

At trial he admitted killing his wife, but insisted it was not planned and was more likely during a heated argument over an affair he was having with another woman, hoping to be convicted of a lesser degree of manslaughter to become.

He testified that he hit his 28-year-old wife with a hammer in November 2019.

Prosecutors argued the husband had been a careful planner, showing texts between himself and another woman in the months leading up to the murder and a list of pros and cons he had compiled on whether to leave his wife.

He was also spotted on camera shopping for cleaning products the day before Jennifer Rothwell disappeared, police previously said.

Her body was found badly beaten a week after Beau Rothwell reported her missing.

“For Jennifer’s family, words cannot describe how sorry I am. That should never have happened,” Beau Rothwell said during the sentencing hearing, according to KSDK.
