Big Philanthropy is not America’s friend
Partisan mega-donors are arming foundations to overturn elections, redraw congressional maps, and reshape America from top to bottom.
When you think of big liberal donors, most think of George Soros or the Ford Foundation. Forgotten are dozens of mega-donors, few of whom non-philanthroids have heard of. Yet these funders pour out billions of dollars each year to support left-wing groups that are promoting radical climate policies, abortion on demand, voting by mail, and even redrawing congressional cards.
The focus of these silent contributors is the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF), a pass-through in the Bay Area funded by a number of left-wing big-tech billionaires including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, and Netflix -Co-founder Reed Hastings.
These donors have helped make SVCF one of the largest nonprofits in the country by net worth. SVCF is gigantic and costs around $ 8.5 billion of net worth in 2019 after a staggering high of $ 13.5 billion in 2018 when it was even bigger than the massive Ford Foundation.
As the name suggests, community foundations are somewhat different from private foundations such as Ford or Soros ’Open Society Foundations. Legally speaking, these are actually regular 501 (c) (3) nonprofits like your church or local charity (unlike foundations), but unlike most (c) (3) groups, they are on donation fund income (DAFs) instructed. DAFs are a type of charitable investment account that donors can donate to, which allows funds to grow for a period of time before specifying the recipients to whom the community foundation is making grants through their account. (My colleague Michael E. Hartmann and I have written in detail about the advantages and disadvantages of funds that require donation advice Here.)
More importantly, they should focus on providing philanthropic aid to the community they are a part of, and to be fair, much of the SVCF’s spending goes to local universities and the arts.
But the SVCF paid out $ 1.4 billion in grants in 2019 alone – nearly $ 8.9 billion since 2011 – much of it to die-hard activist groups aiming to change America along left lines. Despite #MeToo, SVCF is a pillar of the professional left accusations sexual and emotional abuse of top employees against employees, which led to CEO Emmett Carson stepping down in mid-2018.
Carry out the (democratic) vote
SVCF’s top recipients in 2019 included a variety of nonprofits that were an integral part of the left’s political machinery.
It donated $ 3.6 million to the Voter Participation Center (VPC), one of two nonprofits that in the months leading up to the 2020 elections flooded mailboxes across the country with pre-filled absentee ballots (many of them incorrectly marked). VPC and its “sister”, the Voter Information Center (CVI). VPC once bragged about Clinton pal John Podesta on its board of directors.
Gardner has taken advantage of the IRS rules that allow tax-exempt nonprofits to register voters aim “Unmarried women, millennials, [and] Minorities ”in the 2018 midterm elections, and they used CVI’s 501 (c) (4) tax status to spend more $ 580,000 Direct Aid to Democrats in 2020. Celebrating VPC Times notorious now items “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election” for sending pre-filled postal voting requests to 15 million people, of which 4.6 million were returned.
VPC would like everyone Election to reflect the 2020 election when America experimented with absentee voting everywhere and reaped the subsequent cyclone.
The SVCF gave an additional $ 2.5 million to the in 2019 Voter registration project (VRP), a tax-exempt minority voter turnout operation for Democrats in key states. VRP, in turn, passed this money on to a variety of get-out-the-vote (GOTV) groups in the United States – such as State Voices, New Florida Majority, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, Blueprint North Carolina, and Wed. Familia Vota – and sent $ 1.1 million to the Voter Participation Center.
The SVCF donated an additional $ 3 million to the Texas organization projectwho spot minority and low-income voters every election cycle in the hopes of winning Texas over to the Democratic Party. It promised “To deliver 300,000+ voters to win Texas for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris” in the 2020 election.
The Texas Organizing Project is affiliated with the Marxist-led Black Lives Matter and was part of one in July 2020 $ 200 million Shopping frenzy from a liberal mega donor Susan Sandler to promote left politics in battlefield states in the name of “racial justice”. Recently the group tried unsuccessfully to Block passage of the Election Integrity Act in Texas by recording phone calls and text messages to Democratic lawmakers.
The SVCF gave it another $ 1 million National Redistribution Foundation in 2019 the 501 (c) (3) arm of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee of Former Obama Administration Attorney General Eric Holder. The Holder Committee aims to redraw existing maps of Congressional and state legislative districts – or to be forgotten – to benefit the Democrats after the 2020 national census.
Holder’s hypocritical crusade against republican “gerrymandering” (drawing unfair voting cards) is nothing more than a bald-faced, partisan seizure of power masquerading as “fairness”. No wonder his nonprofit network heavily funded by George Soros. Fortunately, Holder’s network largely missed its 2020 goals; Since then, they have turned their attention to the 2021-22 re-narrow the battlefield and the upcoming midterm elections.
Great philanthropy has an agenda. You will not like it.
SVCF is an important donor to the billion dollar “dark money” empire of Arabella Advisors (dealt with in detail by The American Conservative), which in 2019 alone donated $ 9.8 million to Arabella’s leading company 501 (c) (3), the New venture fund.
It is also a major donor for that Tides Foundation ($ 7.5 million in 2019) and Tidal center ($ 6.9 million), two parts of a massive network of groups that specialize in channeling funds from large donors to left-wing groups and creating new activist organizations.
Then there are the other SVCF political scholarships in 2019: the Clinton Foundation ($ 1.1 million), the Barack Obama Foundation ($ 5.3 million), the hate spreader Southern Poverty Law Center ($ 1.3 million), Forward Justice Social Justice Trial Group ($ 2 million), Van Jones ’ Education Fund Color of Change ($ 2.3 million), the environmentalist Food & water clock ($ 6.2 million), the lobbying group for mass immigration Vera Institute of Justice ($ 2.7 million), Human rights monitoring ($ 2.7 million) and the ACLU Foundation ($ 4.3 million).
That’s just them seven– Number of grants from a single year, from a single organization. The left has dozens of mega-donors like them who feed hundreds of activist groups. Can the right boast the same thing? In my experience, the answer is a resounding “no”.
Conservatives and moderates – everyone who is not a Marxist, really – need to know what they are dealing with. Too few realize that the professional left in this country is the most financed and most coordinated political machine in the world thanks to its arming of America’s lavish nonprofit sector.
Big Philanthropy and the plutocrats behind it are not our country’s friends. Just experience the great influence, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and a tax-exempt non-profit organization – the— Center for Technology and Citizen Life—Had over thousands of local electoral offices in the 2020 elections, a fact that reported in detail about it and has spurred a dozen or so states to revise their electoral laws.
A billionaire effectively privatized a $ 350 million election. If given the chance, how much more control could foundations with nearly unlimited wealth like the SVCF exercise in future elections?
