Cat leaps to safety in front of a burning Chicago apartment
It was a perfect landing.
A black cat escaped injury after jumping out of a fifth-floor window of a burning apartment in Chicago on Thursday.
The harrowing leap to safety was recorded on video by a Chicago Fire Department employee who filmed the exterior of a fire as smoke eaters battled the flames inside.
With black smoke coming out of the windows, you can see the fearless cat approaching the opening before making the jump.
As the viewers gasp, the cat clears a wall and lands on all fours in the grass before running away, as the video shows.
Fire department spokesman Larry Langford said the cat was not injured.
“It went under my car and hid until after a few minutes she felt better and came out and tried to climb the wall to get back in,” he said.
