Christian Eriksen wants to play at the World Cup after the collapse
Christian Eriksen wants to prove he can still play football at a high level. Months after collapsing on the field from cardiac arrest, Eriksen said he wanted to play at the World Cup in Qatar.
Eriksen shared a clip on Twitter sharing his goal. The 2022 World Cup will take place in November.
“My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar,” Eriksen replied when asked about his football plans. “I want to play. That’s been my attitude all along. It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I’ll be selected is another thing, but my dream is to come back.”
Eriksen said he feels great physically and is keen to prove he can continue playing football at an elite level.
Christian Eriksen collapsed during the EM 2020 game
Eriksen collapsed from cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match in June. He received CPR in the field and was transported to a hospital. Denmark had to continue the game, which the players refused. Eriksen let fans know he was fine a few days later and underwent surgery before being discharged from hospital.
In December, Eriksen received clearance to train at Odense Boldklub (OB), his old team in Denmark. Eriksen was reportedly training before receiving this approval. Eriksen, who now has a cardiac starter, cannot play in Italy, which has rules against players who have a cardiac starter.
Eriksen can play in other countries. It could be months before he can return to the pitch.
