Former Idaho State Police Officer Daniel Howard has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife

A former Idaho state police officer who resigned several years ago after multiple criminal investigations into his conduct was arrested this week for the alleged murder of his wife in February 2021, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said.

Daniel Howard, 57, turned himself in to police on Friday to face murder and domestic assault charges in the killing of Kendy Howard, who left behind two adult children and a granddaughter.

Howard called police on the night of February 2, 2021 and informed officers that Kendy had shot himself, according to the Coeur d’Alene Press.

Investigators now assume that the fatal gunshot wound was not self-inflicted.

Howard resigned from the Idaho State Police in November 2014 as investigators investigated multiple crimes he committed in multiple counties.

Prosecutors at the time claimed Howard threatened to kill his boyfriend after finding out his wife was having an affair with him in 2013, according to the Spokesman review.

According to the local newspaper, Howard allegedly left his friend threatening messages, poured syrup into his friend’s vehicles and shot at his house with a firearm.

He also allegedly stole thousands of rounds of ammunition from the Idaho State Police and used a fake name on a motorcycle application.

Daniel Howard was charged with murder and domestic assault in the killing of his wife Kendy Howard on Friday.

Howard struck a plea deal with prosecutors and was sentenced to 120 days in prison and 600 hours of community service, Spokesman-Review reported at the time.

Kendy, an Idaho native, was described in her obituary as “known for her bright smile and outgoing personality.”

“She was loved dearly by her family and we cannot express how much we will miss her,” the obituary reads.

She last posted a quiz on Facebook on February 2, 2021, the day her husband allegedly murdered her.

“Kendy, 2021 will bring you… one single but happy life,” the post reads.
