Hope Solo was reportedly arrested for DWI
Former USWNT goaltender Hope Solo was reportedly arrested Thursday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on suspicion of drunk driving, resisting arrest and committing child molestation.
According to TMZ, Solo was arrested in a car with two young children in a Walmart parking lot. Solo has two-year-old twins with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, but it’s unknown if their children were in the car with her at the time. After her arrest, she was reportedly treated at the Forsyth County Jail.
A statement from Solo’s attorney, Rich Nichols, was posted to her Twitter account on Friday afternoon.
“On the advice of the lawyer, Hope cannot speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her children are her life, that she was released immediately and is now home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial ones Charges suggest so, and she looks forward to the opportunity to defend those charges.”
This isn’t Solo’s first run-in with the law. In 2014, she was arrested and charged with two counts of assault against two family members. While the charges were initially dropped in 2015, prosecutors had them reinstated, and they were only dropped entirely in 2018 when both witnesses declined to testify. Solo claimed she fought off an attack by her nephew.
Solo, 40, has won two Olympic gold medals with the USWNT and was on the team that won the 2015 Women’s World Championship.
