Human remains found at construction site in New York, identified as Stevie Bates
Skeletal remains discovered at a Queens construction site nearly two years ago have been identified as those of a woman who has been missing for a decade, police said Friday.
The remains of Stevie Bates, a 28-year-old homeless woman, were found wrapped in a blanket during a dig September 18, 2020 at 80-97 Cypress Avenue in Glendale.
The dig site is directly across from Mt. Judah Cemetery and not far from at least seven other cemeteries.
Bates was first reported missing in April 2012.
Police said Bates’ identification was reported to them by the city’s coroner on Friday.

Bates’ cause of death has not yet been confirmed as police continue their investigation.
