Liverpool need a home win against Manchester City
Sunday’s Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester City is much bigger for the Reds than the Citizens.
Man City have 23 points and are one point behind Arsenal in the first nine games of the EPL season. Liverpool have less than half City’s points and sit in 10th place. And a 9-0 win over Bournemouth is a big reason Liverpool are in the top 10. The Reds are tied with four teams on 10 points and have the goal difference tiebreaker.
14 points behind the lead, Liverpool’s title run could already be over. It’s not impossible to gain that many points in 29 games, but Liverpool have nine teams to overtake. It’s an incredibly difficult task that was made even harder with a City win on Sunday. If City wins, Liverpool will be at least 16 points behind the top of the table.
But the Champions League is still doable. Liverpool can still win this season’s tournament for an automatic place. And the Reds are currently only six points away from fourth and last place. And with four games left against Tottenham and Chelsea, Liverpool have every right to believe they can still finish in the top four no matter what happens on Sunday.
Here’s a look at the entire weekend EPL list with odds from BetMGM.
Brentford vs Brighton & Hove (over/under 2.5) [Friday]
-
Brentford (+200)
-
Brighton (+135)

tie (+240)
On Friday, two high-flyers from the midfield start the weekend. This could be a fun game and we will go ahead and take the helm.
Leicester City vs Crystal Palace (2.5)
-
Leicester (+125)
-
Palace (+210)
-
Tie (+250)
We still don’t fully trust Leicester. The Foxes are still bottom of the table and have only one win and one draw in nine games. The tie is the choice here.
Wolves v Nottingham Forest (2.5)
-
Wolves (-145)
-
Nottingham Forest (+400)
-
Tie (+280)
Both teams are currently on the relegation zone and have only one win each. Forest have the worst goal difference in the league and Wolves cannot score. Wolves are at home, so they are the choice.
Fulham v Bournemouth (2.5)
-
Fulham (-120)
-
Bournemouth (+310)
-

Fulham go into the game on a two-game losing streak after losing to Newcastle and West Ham. The streak ends on Saturday.
Tottenham vs. Everton (2.5)

Tottenham are playing well at the moment, even if it’s not nice. We’re going down with him.
Southampton vs West Ham (2.5) [Sunday]

West Ham (+145)
-
tie (+240)
This game feels like a draw.

We’ll keep betting on Arsenal until they prove us wrong.
Manchester United vs Newcastle (2.5) [Sunday]
-
United (+100)
-
Newcastle (+250)
-
tie (+270)
The over feels like the real game here in this top six team matchup. Newcastle have scored nine goals in their last two EPL games.
Aston Villa v Chelsea (2.5) [Sunday]
-
Villa (+333)
-
Chelsea (-125)
-
tie (+270)
Chelsea was very good under Graham Potter. That continues on Sunday.
Liverpool vs Manchester City (3.5) [Sunday]

Liverpool (+300)
-
City (-130)

tie (+310)
The odds of a tie are very tempting. We take them.
