Man charged with $ 116 million heroin basting in Australia
A Sydney man was arrested in connection with a $ 116 million heroin bust in Australia – the largest in the country in nearly two decades, authorities said.
The arrest is the culmination of a month-long investigation that began in December when Australian Border Police officers found about 750 pounds of heroin in industrial plants imported from Malaysia, police said in a press release.
The unnamed suspect, 29, is due to appear in court on Saturday after prosecutors alleged he intercepted the machinery and tried to remove the drugs from it.
Investigators removed the drugs and delivered the devices to the designated address.
The man was charged with “attempting to possess a commercial quantity of illegally imported border-controlled drugs” and faces life imprisonment.
