Matt Gaetz Associate admits that both men had sex with teenage girls
Joel Greenberg, a longtime employee of Rep. Matt Gaetz, admitted in a letter that both he and the embattled GOP congressman paid for sex – even with a minor, according to a report on Thursday.
The Daily Beast said it had received three versions of a confession letter Greenberg apparently wrote last year seeking a pardon for then-President Donald Trump.
In the handwritten letter, Greenberg allegedly revealed that both he and Gaetz were “engaged in sexual activity” with a girl who was 17 at the time.
“From time to time several of these girls were paid gasoline money or gifts, rent or partial fees, including the person who was under 18,” he wrote.
“I’ve seen the actions firsthand and Venmo transactions, cash app or other payments were made to these girls on behalf of the congressman.”
Greenberg claimed the girl lied about her age and that both he and Gaetz believed she was 19 when they allegedly paid her for sex, the report said.
“There was no further contact with this person until after their 18th birthday,” he wrote.
The Justice Department has reportedly investigated whether 38-year-old Gaetz paid a 17-year-old for sex and made her travel in violation of federal sex trafficking laws.
Gaetz’s investigation is also said to focus on whether the congressman paid to have sex with multiple women recruited online.
Greenberg, a former Florida county tax collector, was charged last summer with sexual trafficking and other federal offenses allegedly involving the same teenager.
He has reportedly been working with the government since last year – including providing investigators with information about Gaetz’s activities.
Gaetz has denied ever having paid for sex and also said that as an adult he never had sex with a 17-year-old. He was not charged.
