At least 100 people were in the facility when gunfire broke out around 11 p.m.
Identified as a former FedEx employee Brandon Scott Hole, the gunman took his own life after being confronted by police officers, according to police.
Hole was questioned by the FBI last year after his mother told police she feared he might try to commit suicide by a police officer, the government said.
His motive remains unclear.
“I am heartbroken to confirm that my Naniji (maternal grandmother), Amarjeet Kaur Johal, was among the dead killed in the senseless shooting at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis,” said Komal Chohan of the Sikh According to coalition.
“I have several family members who work in the respective facility and are traumatized. My nani, my family, and our families shouldn’t feel unsafe at work, in their place of worship, or anywhere, ”Chohan continued.
“Enough is enough – our community has gone through enough trauma.”
