Napoli fans erupt in cheers after the team won their first Serie A title in 33 years
Napoli have won Serie A for the first time in 33 years. A draw against Udinese on Thursday gave Napoli the title with five games remaining.
It is the third time in team history that Napoli have won Italy’s top flight. The team did the same in 1987 and 1990. Both teams were led by football legend Diego Maradona.
33 years is a long time between titles and the team, their fans and the city of Naples erupted in mighty rage after the drought ended.
Napoli players and coaches screamed in excitement and shed tears as the team clinched the title. Napoli fans attending the competition, which took place in Udine, smiled and celebrated the moment.
Those who chose to watch the game at Napoli’s home stadium, the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, went wild as the game progressed to the final.
Back in Udine, Napoli players took the celebration back to the dressing room, where some danced on tables. Shirts – and pants – were optional.
The whole city of Naples took to the streets to celebrate the title. Incredible fireworks exploded in the sky and fans rode the streets on scooters.
After Thursday’s draw, Napoli have five games left. The team will face Fiorentina on Sunday before returning home to face Monza on May 14. We expect Napoli fans to be in full force on the 14th for the team’s first home game since winning the Serie A title.
