Patrick Mahomes adds Sporting KC to its property portfolio
The Mahomes family continues to expand their sports property portfolio in Kanas City.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a partner in the MLS’s Sporting KC, the team said on Tuesday. He is already a partner in the Kansas City Royals in MLB and his fiancée Brittany Matthews is part of the KC NWSL owning group.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the Sporting Kansas City owners team and strengthen my connection with the fans and the city I love,” Mahomes said in a team statement. “Sporting is a community-based club and I look forward to continuing to support the growth of football in Kansas City.”
The 2018 league MVP has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Chiefs. Mahomes, 25, was named the MVP of her Super Bowl LIV win and made the title game again last season but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A year ago, the Royals announced that he had bought part of the team. His father, Pat Mahomes, played in the MLB and Mahomes was drafted into the league but opted for football.
In December 2020, Matthews was announced as part of the group of owners bringing the Utah Royals to Kansas City. She is a former college and professional soccer player.
Mahomes is currently with the Chiefs as training camp begins this week before the 2021 NFL season.
