Prince Harry, Meghan and the Bidens perform at the vaccination concert
Prince Harry and Meghan will serve as campaign leaders for Global Citizen’s efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccines to health workers in the world’s poorest countries.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be featured on Vax Live: The World Reunification Concert, which will be recorded on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and broadcast on May 8th on ABC, CBS, FOX, YouTube and iHeartMedia radio stations. Global Citizen, the nonprofit fighting poverty, announced on Tuesday.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will appear on the show as part of the We Can Do This initiative to help build confidence in COVID-19 vaccines. French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković will also perform at the concert, which will be hosted by Selena Gomez and conducted by Jennifer Lopez.
Harry and Meghan are also making an effort to raise money for them, which plans to produce $ 19 billion to pay for the vaccines for medical workers.
Global Citizen said the idea is to get companies to “donate dollars for cans,” and the world’s seven largest economies to share surplus vaccine supplies with countries in need.
As of April, 60 nations had not received COVID-19 vaccines, Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans told the Associated Press.
The celebrities will also urge drug companies “including Moderna to provide vaccines at non-profit prices”.
Foo Fighters, Eddie Vedder, J. Balvin and H.E.R. Presenters Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King and Jimmy Kimmel, as well as actors Ben Affleck, Nomzamo Mbatha, Olivia Munn and Sean Penn will also perform at the concert. The event is part of a growing choir committed to wider and fairer distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
“Last fall, I called for the cans ordered by our countries to be shared out to ensure both solidarity and health security,” Macron said in a statement. “With the European mechanism for exchanging vaccines through the COVAX initiative launched by France, we are in concrete solidarity in the fight against the virus that does not care about borders. Today I call on all my colleagues to join this dynamic and make a commitment enter into Vax Live. “
