
Rishi Sunak meets tech bosses on ‘existential’ risks of artificial intelligence | British News
Rishi Sunak has met tech industry executives to discuss the “existential threats” that artificial intelligence could pose.
The prime minister met with CEOs of OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic today to share ideas on how to manage the technology as it becomes more sophisticated.
Mr. Sunak hailed AI as “the defining technology of our time with the potential to positively transform humanity” but also addressed the risks it could pose.
These included disinformation and national security risks, as well as “existential threats”.
There have already been cases of fake AI generated imagesai photography mimicry, cloned music tracks and fears that the Technology could impact education.

However, the meeting was about how AI security is “an international endeavour” – as agreed at the G7 forum – and that the Prime Minister wants to position the UK as a frontrunner in the regulatory talks.
Despite concerns about AI, the technology has made advances in the scientific and medical fields, among others a new test developed to potentially help doctors diagnose heart attacks faster and more accurately.
Mr Sunak spoke of the potential of AI to “deliver better outcomes for the UK public, with new opportunities in a range of areas to improve public services”.
