Sonic the Hedgehog: Sega Teases Another 3D Video Game as Part of a Series of Announcements by Ents & Arts News
Next-gen consoles will get a new 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game next year after Sega annoyed the prospect on Thursday.
The trailer for the as yet unnamed game sees the fearless blue hero running through a forest, leaving a trail of digital effects.
A runic-style shape will then appear before “2022” appears on the screen.
Sonic Teams is behind the new game that previously produced Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces. It will be released on new consoles like PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch, as well as PS4, Xbox One and PC.
3D Sonic games like Forces and Boom were widespread when they were released. Reviewers and gamers alike complained that the titles were memorable with a questionable plot. Sega will therefore try to get the fans back on board with its latest offering.
However, there is still an appetite for content from the world’s most popular fast-footed, prickly mammal. Sega is also announcing more games, shows and movies on its Sonic Central Stream.
The retro game developer will also be remastering Sonic Colors: Ultimate, its 2010 game, for PS4, Switch, PC and Xbox One, releasing a compilation of the original series that will include Sonic The Hedgehog and subsequent sequels.
The ring that hunts hedgehogs will soon appear in other titles, including Two Point Hospital and a game from the Tokyo Olympics.
Along with other game titles like The Last Of Us and Resident Evil, Sonic will also go to a streaming service next year and receive a 24-episode Netflix series called Sonic Prime.
This is related to the previously announced sequel to the hero’s 2020 live-action film, in which Jim Carey as Sonic’s archenemy Dr. Robotnik starred with comedian Ben Schwartz in the title role.
Sega’s announcements come on the 30th anniversary of the game’s 16-bit introduction in 1991, which spawned a world of movies, TV shows, toys, and games.
