UMass Amherst students were suspended for partying outside without a mask

Three Massachusetts college students were suspended after school administrators reportedly saw a photo of the trio at an off-campus party outside and without a mask.

“One Saturday a photo was sent to the off-campus administration for these girls. Because of this, they lost an entire semester of their schooling, ”one parent told WBZ-TV, the Boston subsidiary of CBS.

It is unclear when the photo was taken and whether the young women had been vaccinated at the time they attended the party.

The freshman was cut off from virtual learning after being suspended and banned from the finals, which means he will have to repeat the semester while his parents on hold.

“That negates the whole semester, $ 16,000 in money and you have to reapply for the next semester. But they missed apartment registration, ”a father of one of the children identified only as Scott told the broadcaster.

A flood of COVID-19 cases in the school in February resulted in restrictions, but in April, when the UMass ice hockey team won the national championship, athletes, some without a mask, were celebrated as they arrived back on campus, according to a large crowd a report.

The school said in a statement that students “received a series of public health messages this semester that highlighted the importance of following public health protocols and the consequences for non-compliance, and those messages were also raised UMass social media channels shared. “

The university did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.
