Woman disguised as a nurse tries to kidnap an infant from a California hospital: police officers
A woman has been arrested after she allegedly disguised herself as a nurse to kidnap a newborn baby from a California hospital room last week, authorities said.
Jesenea Miron, 23, entered the medical center at Moreno Valley’s Riverside University Health System Thursday night, allegedly posing as a newly hired nurse, police said in a press release.
Miron gained access to the maternity ward, told a patient that she was a nurse, and then allegedly tried to grab the newborn, according to the press release.
She was confronted by hospital workers who alerted security and the police. The suspected would-be baby thief fled without the child and was arrested at a home in Moreno Valley, officials said.
Miron has been charged with kidnapping and is being held on $1 million bail, the press release said.
What motivated the incident was unclear.
Hospital officials told KTLA that they were evaluating their safety procedures and “investigating how the suspect entered the patient’s room and interacted with the family.”
