Zlatan Ibrahimovic doubles on LeBron James comments

Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to wage a war of words with the Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Ibrahimovic doubled his comments on James on Tuesday, saying, “Athletes should be athletes.”

Ibrahimovic initially got involved with James on Friday. Without saying the specific words, Ibrahimovic was essentially telling James to stick with the sport. James fired back on Saturday, saying he would continue to fight for those without a platform. James also pointed out a story in 2018 where Ibrahimovic spoke about racism.

Ibrahimovic responded to these statements on Tuesday, reiterating his initial stance, according to Reuters.

“Racism and politics are two different things. Athletes unite the world, politics divides it,” he said.

“Everyone is welcome in our environment, no matter where you come from, and we do everything we can to bring people together.

“My message? Athletes should be athletes, politicians should be politicians.”

It’s the same tired trope that James faced multiple times throughout his career. In 2018, James was criticized by Fox News commentator Laura Ingraham for telling James he had to “shut up and dribble”. James took the quote and used it as the title of a documentary series he was producing at Showtime.

At this point, James doesn’t have to respond to this type of criticism. His extrajudicial actions can make the heavy lifting.

LeBron James continues to fight injustice

The “shut up and dribble” moment continued to inspire James to continue being an activist. He opened the I Promise School in Ohio and has continued to support this project. In 2019, James presented a check for $ 1 million to help the school build a new gym. In December, James announced that he would be building a community center in Akron.

Before the 2020 elections, James founded More Than a Vote, an organization to “combat systemic, racist repression of voters”. A number of athletes, including A’ja Wilson, Alvin Kamara, Ben Simmons, and Odell Beckham Jr., are involved in the organization.
